2004 International Symposium on Air Cushion Technology

For more than thirty years The Canadian Air Cushion Technology Society (CACTS) has held periodic symposia on air cushion technology, in collaboration with other societies devoted to air cushion vehicles/hovercraft. CACTS is a constituent society of the Canadian Aeronautics and Space Institute (CASI) / Institut Aéronautique et Spatial du Canada.

For the first time, the 2004 Symposium will occur in conjunction with HoverWorld Expo 2004 - Endurance Race Australia, which will allow even greater participation in both events.

Plans are being finalized for the Symposium to take place at the Australian National University, December 29-30, 2004. Since 1946, the Australian National University has served both undergraduate and post-graduate research and study in relation to subjects of national importance. The Australian National University continues to be a unique institution within the Australian university system, well placed to continue and build upon its role as a major center of research in the natural, physical and social sciences and in the humanities. It values its reputation as an innovative research and teaching university.

Topics

You are cordially invited to submit a paper for presentation at the Symposium. Selected papers will be reviewed for publication in the Canadian Aeronautics and Space Journal. The Symposium registration fee will be reduced by half for one author per accepted paper.

Papers on all aspects of air cushion technology may be submitted. Since the Symposium will occur concurrently with  HoverWorld Expo 2004 - Endurance Race Australia, papers addressing both sport and racing hovercraft designs are particularly encouraged.

Topics may include, but are not limited to:

·         Research                                                                         ·         Systems
·         New Design                                                                  ·         Instrumentation
·         Skirt Design                                                                 ·         Computer Studies
·         Safety                                                                                  ·         Wing-in-ground effect
·         Propulsion                                                                      ·         Recreational craft
·         Operations                                                                     ·         Rescue applications
·         Successes/Difficulties/Failures            ·         Commercial applications
·         Economics                                                                    ·         Military applications
·         Noise                                                                                    ·         Novel applications
·         Components                                                                ·         Mathematical analysis

Both full-length and short papers are welcome. If you have unpublished information to share, this is your forum. Here, the opportunity is yours to discuss air cushion technology with your fellow authorities from around the world during coffee breaks and receptions. The Keynote Address will comment on the state of the air cushion vehicle (ACV) world as seen by a distinguished guest.
